FIFA World Cup 2026 – Japan beats Tunisia to strengthen knockout bid; TUN v JPN player ratings

Japan boosted its chances of qualifying for the knockout stages of the 2026 FIFA World Cup by beating Tunisia 4-0 in the Group F match at Monterrey Stadium on Saturday.

Daichi Kamada put the Samurai Blue ahead in the fourth minute after a pass into the six-yard box from Keito Nakamura.

Japan doubled their lead just after the half-hour mark, with Ayase Ueda finding the bottom left corner with a clinical strike from the edge of the area.

Junya Ito made it three in the 69th minute after being put through on goal with a neat tap over Ueda’s defence. The final nail in the coffin was hammered by Ueda in the 84th minute with a running header after a cross from Kaishu Sano.

The result means that Tunisia is no longer eligible to qualify for the knockouts.
