Edmund, who once helped against Mohun Bagan, returns to Eastern bengal like his new No. 10

Eastern Bengal officially announced to make Edmund Lalrindika forward as his new No. 10 and signed him a three-year contract for an unknown compensation this summer.

This will be his second stint in the club, where the 26-year-old here previously played on loan from Bengaluru FC in the 2019-2020 season.

On January 19, 2020, he helped his debut in East Bengal in a Kolkata Derby against Mohun Bagan, but an injury in the same game shortened his time.

«I have always dreamed of returning to Eastern bengal. During my first stint I sustained an injury during my debut. It could no longer be unhappy because it happened during a derby in the Vybk (Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan),» said Edmund.

«Now that I am back, I believe I have some unfinished things here.»

The attacker takes over the number 10 sweater from Captain Cleiton Silva, who had led to the Super Cup last year. After he ended with head coach Oscar Bruzon, he mutually terminated his contract last season.

«Edmund is just fresh from an excellent season with Inter Kashi, even earning well-deserved national team-ups. We have kept his versions very closely,» said Bruzon.

«I am happy because we have protected a player who grows in shape and can really make a difference in various attacking situations.»

Edmund comes from Mizoram and is a versatile attacker who can play as a center-forward, winger and attacking midfielder.

In the 2024-25 season, Edmund played 1,846 minutes in 24 games for Inter Kashi, scored four goals and providing six assists. The 26-year-old was a striking artist in the last two editions of the I-League, scored eight goals and offered 13 assists.

A product of the Aiff Elite Academy, Edmund, was part of the Bengaluru FC setup from 2019 to 2024, before he came to Inter Kashi in 2023.

The Young Forward has also represented India on the U-44, U-16, U-19 and Senior levels. He made his senior national team debut in a FIFA World Cup qualification match against Kuwait on June 6, 2024.
