tThe Forest Service closed a section of the Continental Divide Trail/Colorado Trail between Twin Lakes and Tennessee Pass in response to a rapidly growing wildfire that started yesterday on the slopes of Mount Massive, Colorado’s second-highest peak. The fire started Sunday afternoon and quickly grew to more than 1,000 acres, with its perimeter overlapping the CDT.
Lake County, Colorado, is under a mandatory evacuation order, and both the Continental Divide Trail Coalition and the Colorado Trail Foundation urge hikers to stay out of this section until it reopens. The closure is from mile CDT 1167.5 to mile 1201.25.
