Brazil were awarded a penalty early in the first half on Sunday during the round of 16 against Norway in New Jersey.
Matheus Cunha was brought down in the penalty area by Kristoffer Ajer, but referee Ismail Elfath failed to heed Brazil’s requests for a penalty.
Replays showed the defender clearly tripped the Brazilian forward and the referee was eventually called to the pitch monitor by VAR. After review, the decision was reversed.
However, the Selecao were unable to capitalize on the opportunity. Bruno Guimaraes stepped out and shot to the left of Norwegian goalkeeper Orjan Nyland, who guessed the direction and made the save.
