Will there be extra time and penalties if Mexico vs England ends in a draw at the 2026 World Cup?

Mexico and England were locked in a thrilling Round of 16 match at the FIFA World Cup, with the Three Lions leading 3-2 in the second half in Mexico City.

Jude Bellingham’s double in the space of 98 seconds gave England a 2-0 lead before Julian Quinones gave Mexico a goal back.

The match took another turn in the second half when Jarell Quansah was sent off in the 54th minute, leaving England to take the lead 3–1 through Harry Kane’s penalty.

But Kane fouled Brian Gutierrez just seven minutes later, allowing Raul Jiminez to convert from the spot.

What happens if Mexico vs England ends in a draw after 90 minutes?

If the Mexico-England match remains tied after 90 minutes plus injury time, the match will go into 30 minutes of extra time, which will be divided into two halves.

If the winner is not determined even after that, a penalty shootout will decide which team will advance to the pre-quarter-finals
