Why doesn’t Facundo Medina start in the round of 16 match between Argentina and Egypt FIFA World Cup 2026?

Facundo Medina was left out of the Argentina line-up for the 16th match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup against Egypt in Altlanta on Tuesday.

The full-back was replaced on the left flank by Nicolas Tagliafico for the knockout match.

Medina, who plays his club football for Marseille in Ligue 1, has started three games at the World Cup so far. The only match he missed was the group stage against Jordan.

The left-back was subbed off in the 86th minute of the round of 32 against Cape Verde after suffering from cramps.

Argentina head coach Lionel Scaloni had said Medina was fit to return to action against Egypt, but the defender remained on the bench.
