Defending champion Argentina is in serious danger of being eliminated from the 2026 World Cup after falling 2-0 behind Egypt in the round of 16 of the World Cup in Atlanta on Tuesday.
Mostafa Ziko completed a dramatic counter-attack in the 67th minute to extend the Pharaohs’ lead after Yasser Ibrahim’s header had put them ahead in the first half.
The 29-year-old attacker had found the net in the 58th minute, but the goal was disallowed by VAR due to an earlier foul on Lisandro Martinez on the other side of the field.
Ziko was born in Alexandria and rose through the ranks at Egyptian club Gomhoriat Shebin. He currently plays for Pyramids FC, which he joined from ZED FC in 2025.
The left winger made his international debut just before the tournament in a friendly match against Russia. In just seven games for the national team, he has already scored four goals.
