I woke up to the sound of rain bouncing off my tent. I don’t know when it started raining, but I know it was raining at 3 in the morning when I woke up. I quickly fell back asleep and woke up again at 6am to the rain, but lighter this time. I looked at my weather app and it had enough service to indicate that the rain would stop in the next two hours. So I chose to wait, just like Shooter and Birdie.
River walk
Finally, after 8am, I was packed and ready to resume my hike. The first two kilometers were fairly flat and I walked along the river.

A few miles later I arrived at a bakery where I bought a breakfast sandwich, a pastry, coffee and some cold-pressed juice, all fantastic! Then we continued on our way, walking near the river for practically the rest of the day. Not much happened during the morning walk, just one of those days. Today was more about some of the detours we took. We stopped at a market and bought a whole Wild Maine blueberry pie to share between the three of us.
Believe it or not, but it wasn’t my idea to get the cake…
And then we proceeded to eat it straight out of the pan and devoured it on the bench outside the store. It was really good and I’m sure we were a big attraction for people passing by!
Falls Village and the Great Falls
They continued for several more kilometers until we reached the town of Falls Village, where we stopped for a late afternoon break. We ended up going to the Falls Village Inn for a burger and some cold drinks! Oddly, the outside tables were all reserved, so we had to sit inside, several smelly, sweaty hikers. Much to the chagrin of those around us, I’m sure!
Leaving the inn, we got back on the trail and immediately reached 1500 miles completed on the trail.

The trail continued winding through the edge of town and up to the Great Falls of the Housatonic River, which was flowing!

Some locals took some pictures of us there and then we moved on. Once back in the woods, we came across the official 1500 mile sign, which was exciting to see!

After that, just a few more miles of walking into the darkness, the headlights shine again. Another full day with lots of fun diversions as we continue to move forward.
