England defender Jarell Quansah has been handed a two-match ban after being shown a red card during the 2026 FIFA World Cup final 16 match against Mexico on July 5.

The 23-year-old was sent off in the 54th minute of England’s 3-2 win after a dangerous tackle on Mexican Jesus Gallardo.

FIFA’s disciplinary committee announced on Thursday that the defender had been found guilty of serious foul play, meaning he will miss Saturday’s quarter-final against Norway and the subsequent semi-final if England advance.

“The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has imposed the following sanction on England player Jarell Quansah, who was sent off for a direct red card during the FIFA World Cup 2026™ match between Mexico and England, played on July 5, 2026 at the Mexico City Stadium: two-match suspension for breach of Article 14 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code,” the body said in a statement.

“The suspension will be served in the upcoming match(es) of the England representative team in the FIFA World Cup 2026™ and in accordance with Article 69 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code,” it added.
