I woke up at 5:15 this morning and threw my clothes into the dryer for a moment. Then I had breakfast at the restaurant and finished packing my things.

I met several other hikers today on the transport bus from Kennedy Meadows North to Sonora Pass. We were 9 of us on the bus. I did not get many names, but, more importantly, we talked and met a little.

Day 80 leaving Kennedy Meadows North

I met a couple of women this afternoon. One was washing, or at least rinse, his spoon in a current. Putting your spoon in the stream contaminates both your spoon (with any organism that can be in the current) and in the current (with the fragments of the spoon). There are better ways … like oatmeal.

I tried on purpose a new way of filtering water. I attached my filter to a bottle and leaked directly in my mouth. So I wouldn’t have to get one of my bottles to try this, I bought a soda in the store, I drank it at lunch and then rinsed it (pour clean water and drink … Soda tea?). After doing it a couple of times, I filled it with water dripping on rocks in a stream. It worked quite well. It really reduces the overload of drinking water while walking. All I have to do is unscrew the bottle filter, fill the bottle and screw the filter again.

I feel a bit like a lazy one, since almost everyone on the transport bus walked further than me today. But 17.5 miles still walked. My body is tired, since I only have 6 hours of sleep last night. I also arrived at the camp at 5:30. Now is shortly after 8:00. Everything is done and I’m relaxing in my store a little before sleeping. I feel that I need this time of inactivity. In that sense, I feel good about how I did it today.
