Alphonso Davies was not part of Canada’s starting lineup on Saturday for the 2026 FIFA World Cup final against Morocco.
Davies suffered a hamstring injury during the UEFA Champions League semi-final against Paris Saint-Germain prior to the World Cup.
He has slowly built up his fitness during the group stages, appearing in each of his side’s four matches this tournament off the bench.
Canada head coach Jesse Marsch had said on the eve of the round of 32 matches that Davies was fit to play the first-ever FIFA World Cup knockout match.
But the coach did not risk aggravating the injury and kept the 25-year-old on the bench.
