Day 16
Home: Tentsite, Mile 219.3
END: TENTSITE, MILLA 241.5
Walked miles: 22.2 miles
I woke up at 2:30 am with someone who shone directly in my store. Thinking that it was almost the time to get up, I opened an eye and discovered that, despite the bright light, I was dark outside. What was happening? While pushing my head from my store, I could see that it was not a focus of attention, but the moon that shone so brilliantly. It was not even a full moon, but the most avid, the hikers of the night would have taken the most.
After returning to sleep (with my quilt on my head), I woke up at a sensible hour and prepared my things to start. There was a slight breeze that moved through the camp, keeping mosquitoes away. I could actually walked through my camp today!
Today it only consisted of a climb of one night (yes!) That was long but not steep. I started, I went down, descending for a few miles before the climb. It was pleasantly great in the Valley; The sun had not yet reached where it was.
The morning walk was calm, and before realizing, 6 miles were made and the beginning of the climb was here. I fed with a variety of cheez-ns, chocolate hazelnut butter, fruit leather, the last of my nerd rubber groups and a mixture of electrolytes. Hey, at least had some healthy things there.
The climb was as expected. He was not steep at all, but it seemed that he continued forever. I am not sure what I prefer more: to make the climb faster and more pain or make it slowly and gradually. As the morning progressed, the sun was higher in the sky, heating everything. I stopped a couple of times to put my hands in the water in cascade through the rock walls and splash some stabs on my face.
Once again, there was a good number of weekend backpackers, enjoying simultaneously and cursing the outdoors. Once close to the top, I had a goal in mind: I was going to jump in my first lake of the path. There was a small one just after the top that arrived highly qualified in Farout. The day was so hot that I needed a dip to cool off.
I followed the modest lateral path towards the lake and immediately I knew that he had made the right decision. The mosquitoes, although not the worst that I had seen so far, were aggressive, so I had to move quickly to immerse myself and protect my body from the attack. The initial clash of cold water hitting my skin only lasted a second before it was in the sky. There were still mosquitoes buzzing around my head, but that was not enough to ruin the moment.
Sitting in a submerged rock, I could see directly through clear water to the lake floor. All the heat he had collected during the climb dissipated in cold water. My legs floated before me, they no longer had to endure the weight of the climb. Ith
I wish I could have stayed longer, but the mosquitoes were pushing me back to the path. I had to fight to put everything before eating alive, and then it was time to go through the mountain.
Like the ascent, the descent seemed to continue forever. Several hikers were on their way and the sun continued to bake all of us. When I finally got to the bottom, I only had approximately 3 miles. It was just after 5 pm, so I took a longer break knowing that I had more than enough time to get to the camp at a reasonable time.
After one last climb, I was finally there! I was a little worried about not finding a camp since a place that had been watching was full of 5 types that looked like weekends. In addition, many comments about Farout said they could not find my target site. But I found it! It was not the best place, but there was no place on the road in another 3 miles and I definitely didn’t have that in me before dinner.
I settled, I obtained water from the cascade right next door, then ate while I saw the sunlight disappeared from the mountains where I had been only a few hours earlier.
And that is a day in the life of a PCT Sobo hiker!
