Firmino moves to Qatar after leaving Saudi Pro League side Al Ahli


Former Liverpool striker Roberto Firmino joined Qatar’s al-Sadd after Al-Ahli, the Saudi Pro League side, had confirmed the departure of the Brazilian from the club on Wednesday.

Firmino has signed a two-year-old deal with the Qatar Stars League Champions, after he led Al-Ahli to the Asian Champions League Elite title in Jeddah in May.

«I am happy because during these two years we wrote history together in the club,» said the Brazilian in a farewell video released by the Saudi club.

«The best time was to become the champions of Asia. I am very grateful for this.»

Firmino spent two seasons with Al-Ahli after participating from Liverpool and played a key role in the first continental title win of the club, scored six times in 12 games in the Asian Champions League Elite.

He gave assists for both goals of his club in their victory over the Japanese Kawasaki -Frontale in the final in May to become the first player – in addition to clubmates Riyad Mahrez and Edouard Mendy – to win continental titles in Asia and Europe.

The 33-year-old joins an al-SADD side that won the domestic title of last season to qualify for the next edition of the Asian Champions League Elite.
