Day 44: Mass High Point and Animal Encounters

The accommodation in Los Sauces was modest, but his breakfast extended a little compensated. The owners were also very proud of it. Fresh fruit in abundance and a wide variety of bars. You don’t see this type of continental breakfast very often.

I asked about a trip back to the path, and the owner said they could not take us until 9:30 am this was understandable since they had to watch the food, but we were trying Boogie before they hit the storms. Another lady was grabbing food at the same time as us, and I managed to convince her to take us two miles back to the path.

It turns out that it is an Oklahoma flutist in an orchestra. She and her son headed to New Hampshire for a presentation, and the path was on the way! Both were very friendly and we very much appreciated the elevator. Two miles are not much in the great scheme of a walk, but it would delay us a bit. Especially because our first climb of the day is the culminating point of Mount Graylock in Massachusetts.

As soon as they left us, we found some magic of paths in a kiosk. There were four coolers full of food and hiker drinks! It seems that each of the refrigerators is administered by an individual, and we met a couple of women who fill them.

After having a soda and some snacks, we find Dirty Harry again! He was sitting at a picnic table, also enjoying the treats. His trip is coming to an end in the next few days before he has to fly back to England, so we will not see much of him.

The Graylock climb was quite easy, a bit slow to me. After a night in the city, I am typically lag behind my usual rhythm. A couple of miles from the hill, I made a little cafeined of mine to help me do well.

The planned rain continued to decrease, and the clouds opened for our arrival of Graylock. There is an incredible monument of war and tower at the top. We climb the tower of almost 100 feet to see the view.

We explore the area a bit, we had snacks and fill our water bottles of the spikes behind the shelter.

Day 44: Mass High Point and Animal Encounters

Graylock’s climb was quite rolling, and we stopped for lunch just after the 1 PM we packed Bars and cold cuts and we made some sandwiches.

As we descended more, we listened and saw a pork in a tree! This has been in my list of wildlife encounters searched from the first Vermont, and here it is! The image is not the best, but we admire it from afar.

Shortly after, we met a couple of nobles who had a break to sit down. One was called crazy, and he had a glass hat and a purple shirt. Unfortunately, I forgot the name of the other guy, but this mysterious man gave us a free beer card to use in the brewery in the trail in Duncannon, pa. The magic of the path comes in many ways.

Our descent led us to a huge colony of chicken mushrooms. We have been seeing more than this recently.

We arrived in the city of Cheshire and stopped to obtain some soft drinks in Diane’s turn. There is a camp directed by the community for hikers around the corner, and I went to look for a spike and a bathroom. I found this, as well as Dirty Harry, again today. We fill our waters and head towards our final escalation of the day. The humidity seemed to be reaching its maximum point, and we were pouring sweat next to the top of the hill.

I moved a little more slowly at this point, and Nick was ahead of me out of sight. I heard some talks at the bottom of my music, so I stopped her to listen. It turns out that Nick saw a baby bear crossing the path and was trying to speak strong enough to avoid it. Fortunately, the mother was not close and we passed safely. Light directly after this, a mother and a baby cup glass were scared by us, followed by a urogal! The path separated the mother and baby porks, and we tried to hurry as quickly as possible. Fortunately, the mother remained firm when we crossed between the two. I don’t want to bother these acute creatures!

The storm was finally rolling around 6 pm, and we arrived at the camp just in time to settle before the rains arrived. The sandwiches were dinner, and we spent the rest of the night trying to stay dry in the store.
