Thunderstorms and more thunderstorms: the walk

What is this on the ground? HAIL. I was lucky, I came after the storm

My first day outside Ashland, a great storm hit the Yreka region to the south of me. I could see the ray through the walls of my store and listen to distant rumbles. It scared me enough to publish guidelines in my store in case the storm approached. Nothing happened and the next morning I saw on Facebook that there were other PCT hikers that had been beaten a lot with hail, but they were fine.

Another dramatic storm: I was not happy to be on this crest, but I stopped for a quick photo.

Thus began a topic in the next few days. Oregon has relatively mild land with modest hills and many trees and ferns. This can be very beautiful, but also a bit monotonous. You score that with a good afternoon storm to do interesting things.

The worst night until now it has been a day south of Crater Lake when the storm arrived at 9 pm I had made it complacent. After setting guidelines in my store for some nights in a row, I decided not until tonight. In the end, I had to quickly tie my tent when the wind bursts began. Inside my store, I could not see the real ray, but the flashes that occurred every few seconds were enough to make my breathing fast and my heartbeat. When the wind arrived, the whole store shook, and I had to prepare the posts from the inside to support it so that they would not break. Send text messages to my husband helped, and for midnight the storm had passed. That meant three hours of sleep for when adrenaline disappeared.

Electric storm hanging on Crater Lake

Subsequently, the afternoon storms have been the standard. Yesterday, I enjoyed a trot of 2 miles along the crest line with a storm right on my heels. Everything they had taught me about how far I could hit the lightning of the royal storm in my head.

Crater Lake National Park

Since the last time I published. I did it through the Crater Lake National Park in the company of Tim (a section hiker). Then, on the refuge cove through a relatively beautiful field. Mosquitoes have been quite aggressive. They will attack me as soon as I put on my pants to urinate. Basically, do not stop or swarm.

The intoxicating feeling of an adventure has disappeared. My body has been quite tired in recent days. I am not close to the point of quitting smoking, but a good shower, bed and clean clothes may be necessary to restore my general perspective. Every day, there seems to be a new pain or pain. Every hour, there is a new mosquito sting not to scratch the last two nights, my hips have been really painful, which makes sleep difficult, did not seem to lose a lot of weight, but now it is an obvious change.

Beautiful moments

There have been some silver linings and some beautiful moments. There seems to be a kind of butterfly migration and sometimes there are hundreds of them around me. At one point, I folded the corner and the butterflies flew on my face, which made me think of a strange attack of horror movies of the butterflies.

I also had my first bear sighting. It was about 100 feet away from the path. We saw each other at the same time and we both stopped. I raised my arms and trekking posts on my head and shouted «Whooo!» The bear turned around and escaped so fast that I felt guilty. I imagine that the poor bear trembling and hiding behind a tree so that the little human does not hurt him.

Hopefully for the next publication it is more positive.
