A new Premier League will start when defending champion Liverpool opposite Bournemouth is in the opening match of the 2025-26 season on Friday.
The start of a new PL season also indicates at the start of a new Fantasy Premier League campaign (FPL), since millions around the world will prepare themselves to tailor themselves to the action every week, hoping to earn the most points in their respective competitions.
The pre-season served many lessons with regard to teamactics, formations and personnel changes on the way to the unknown.
Here are the most important changes in the 2025-26 edition of the FPL that you need to know:
Defensive contributions
In the 2025/26 season, defending players will be awarded more points for their less halved work, apart from the regular clean pages.
During a game, every defender who reaches a combined 10 -ready, blocks, intercepts and tackles will get two extra points.
For midfielders, apart from the aforementioned criteria, Ball Recovery will also count for their defensive score. They will have to count 12 of such actions to be eligible for the two defensive points.
Chips
FPL managers can use their set chips twice during a season.
Earlier, only the Wildcard chip was eligible to be used twice in a campaign, but from this edition, free hit, triple captain and bank boost can also be used twice.
All chips must be used once before Gameweek 19, after which they cancel. The Assistant Manager Chip has been abolished this season.
Helps
In earlier seasons, FPL assisted points were awarded to the player who had the last touch before a goal was scored. The current season will see Clementia when assigning assistant points, granting players who had bent fell to earn points.
Afcon Transfers
FPL managers receive extra transfers in Gameweek 16 to plan the Africa Cup of Nations. The total number of free transfers will be increased to a maximum of five for that game week.
