UEFA Super Cup: Luis Enrique applauds keeper Chevalier after Dream PSG debut

Lucas Chevalier impressed his debut on Wednesday as the new first-choice goalkeeper of Paris St Germain on Wednesday in his Super Cup victory at Tottenham Hotspur, who praised manager Luis Enrique.

The 23-year-old former Lille keeper was put into the spotlight after Enrique made it clear earlier this week that Gianluigi Donnarumma had been exhausted from the team, which made the Italian international search for a new club.

Chevalier, who arrived in the club on Sunday, earned praise from both teammates and fans after making various acrobatic saves, including the attempt by Micky van de Ven during the penalty shootout.

«We trusted Lucas … He just arrived, but it was time for him to show off. We are very happy because he made it,» Enrique told reporters after PSG Tottenham defeated 4-3 on penalties.

«This is PSG, you have to know how to tackle the pressure, Lucas is a goalkeeper of the top class, he is able. He has done his job, welcome to him with a trophy.»

Enrique admitted that the publicity around Donnarumma was far from ideal for the club. «Everyone was talking about the situation; his (Lucas’ position) was not easy, but he showed a great character.»

«It’s a bit of a script: he comes in and saves a penalty. It’s a good start for him, we are happy,» said teammate Ousmane Dembele.

PSG starts his Ligue 1 campaign at Nantes on Sunday.
