Chevalier -Fout increases doubts about PSG’s Donnarumma Sale decision

While Gianluigi Donnarumma received the best rootman prize on Monday evening during the Ballon d’Or ceremony, Lucas Chevalier at the same time underwent a scorching time when Paris Saint-Germain lost to Marseille 1-0.

Chevalier did not succeed in treating a cross from the right and was easily beaten in the air when Nayef Aguerd scored with a towering header in Stade Velodrome.

Chevalier was not only not close to the ball, his right arm was waving and his back was turned – barely any authoritative keepers. The early goal put PSG on the back foot and gave Marseille the chance to dictate the pace.

Time will learn whether PSG coach Luis Enrique made a hasty decision to sell the 26-year-old Donnarumma, who has even reached his first years.

Chevalier replaced Donnarumma on PSG this season in a movement that seemed surprising, especially considering how Donnarummas shot-stop in the knockout phases turned out to be crucial to win the Champions League. Luis Enrique even described him as ‘a titan’ after the victory in Arsenal in the first stage of his semi -final.

Chevalier is much more inexrimental than Donnarumma, the penalty stop star for Italy when it won the European championship in 2021 and for PSG against Liverpool in the Champions League round of 16.

Donnarumma has played 76 times for Italy, while Chevalier does not yet have to play for France and only has one season of Champions League experience behind him.

But Luis Enrique wanted a different style of goalkeeper, one with a superior passing skills from the back to let his team play a little higher on the field; In essence, a keeper-sweeter who acts as a different outfield player.

Donnarumma made several blunders who spent the ball with PSG during his four seasons, and this was reportedly a key factor in the decision of Luis Enrique to buy Chevalier from Lille for around 40 million euros ($ 47 million).

However, when he was under pressure late in the match against Marseille on Monday, Chevalier’s hurried pass almost led to a second goal when a Marseille player closed him.

When Donnarumma announced last month that he left PSG, he did not stop his frustration. Although he did not mention names, it seemed clear who blamed.

«Unfortunately, someone has decided that I can no longer be part of the group and contribute to the success of the team,» he posted on Instagram. «I am disappointed and discouraged.»

Donnarumma was praised in the British media for his performance in the new club Manchester City after the 1-1 draw against Arsenal last Sunday. Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta described his impressive timing and his presence in the penalty area.
