The captain Bruno Fernandes of Manchester United had saved a penalty on Saturday when his team went to a 3-1 defeat in Brentford in the Premier League on Saturday, Igor Thiago scored twice before the host side.
Fernandes was made to wait a few minutes to try to equalize his penalty, awarded for a clear error on former Brentford attacker Bryan Mbeumo, and his weak effort was easily saved low by Caoimhin Kelleher.
Brentford turned it off in a stop time when Mathias Jensen made a powerful effort after a quick break.
It was another incoherent version by Ruben Amorim’s United, who was 0-2 after 20 minutes.
Thiago shot a shot in the upper corner after he was sent by Jordan Henderson in the eighth minute by Jordan Henderson’s ball through the ball and doubled the lead from close up after United goalkeeper Altay Bayindir could only push a low cross on his path.
Striker Benjamin Sesko scored his first goal for United in the 26th minute and hit home after his first two efforts were blocked in a goalmouth -scramble.
But the visiting side never really built any momentum after the break, because it suffered his third League loss of the season.
After beating Chelsea the last time, there was hope that United could build on that victory.
But the old shortcomings were there for everyone to see, especially in the defense, and Brentford deserved a victory that will again place the attention of Amorim’s future in Old Trafford.
The defeat left his side 13th in the table with seven points, while Brentford went on goal difference.
Fernandes looked at the end at the end when he applauded the visiting fans of United – his penalty -Miss was the most important moment in a game that had no real quality.
