Karim Adeyemi scored again when Borussia Dortmund kept pace with Bundesliga leader Bayern Munich by hitting Mainz 2-0 on Saturday.
Dortmund had to do without star Vooruit Serhou Guirassy, who withdrew before the kick -off with a leg problem. Guirassy has a blow last weekend in the 1-0 win over Wolfsburg. Instead, Julian Brandt just stood in line behind the front two.
Brandt founded Daniel Svensson for the opener in the 27th minute on a counterattack after Paul Nebel had beaten the post on the other side.
Adeyemi made it 2-0 on a different counterattack in the 40th, cut a pass and then raced ahead where he played a two with Brandt before scored for the second consecutive game.
Mainz’s prospects took another knock when goalkeeper Robin Zentner was sent in the 67th to take Adeyemi.
Dortmund -Coach Niko Kovač sent the Portuguese forward Fabio Silva late for his debut.
Dortmund remains the only unbeaten team next to Bayern, which leads with a maximum of 15 points from five games with Dortmund two behind after opening with a draw.

«I know that German football is expected that Bayern should not march by itself, but we must keep the consistency we have today,» said Kovač. «It is the fifth Bundesliga competition day. Not much has happened yet, but we are on a good way.»
Eintracht Frankfurt produced a devastating first half display to beat Borussia Mönchengladbach 6-4, after he had led 6-0 early in the second half.

Johan Bakayoko’s early goal was enough for Leipzig to win 1-0 in Wolfsburg.
