Midfielder of Manchester City Rodri complained about pain in the same knee in which he sustained an ACL injury last season and doubted his fitness for the team’s journey to Monaco in the Champions League.
Last year’s Ballon d’Or winner missed the 5-1 win of Burnley in the Premier League on Saturday after he withdrew from the fight before the game after the training on Friday.
«He said, I can’t play, I have a lot of pain in my knee, I can’t play,» said Pep Guardiola city manager after the Burnley game.
«I said if you can’t play, you can’t play. Another play.» Rodri was eight months out last season with the ACL injury to his right knee. Guardiola confirmed that the same knee is currently causing problems.
Rodri played three games in an eight -day wingspan in the middle of this month, in which Guardiola said that the midfielder of Spain did not feel comfortable in competitions or in training.
The absence of Rodri for most of last season was the key to the sharp fall in the city and the failure to maintain the Premier League title.
City is going to Monaco this week and has won the opening match in the first phase of the Champions League at home at Napoli.
