Skinny wet on the long path

Yo I did not feel that I slept well last night, but when I wake up, I realize that, since I was in my comforter from sunset to dawn, I have still managed to take 10 good hours of sleep.

Today I hope to take 20 miles to another shelter. I do not want to hurry on the path, but I have to return to work on a certain day and I have no idea how much I will reduce the speed once I leave the part quite easy and well maintained on this path that overlaps with the path of the Appalaches.

All those who have spoken say that their daily mileage falls significantly, since the northern section is incredibly technical and challenging.

Autumn colors

The beauty of the morning light that shines through the changing leaves has not yet disappeared, and floats during the first miles to my first source of water, stopping occasionally to take an image that does not do justice to beauty.

Having shelters on this path is crazy and feels like a trick code. Never before had a long distance path walked with shelters, and it is very pleasant to appear, throw his sleeping pad and go to bed without having to worry about the rain.

We are approaching our first city and I thought we should not take two nights in the city so close to each other before realizing that my brain was counting our night at the shelter like a night in the city.

It was certainly a more pleasant accommodation than some of the city stops that I had on the road on the CDT.

Big Catt enjoying our «house» for the night in Leadville, CO in the CDT.

Mystery of the East

I am very familiar with the Flora and Fauna of American Mountain West. One of my favorite hobbies on those paths is to see the flowers and try to remember everyone’s names. Here I can only guess.

In the city, I will download an application to help identify vermont plants, but for now I enjoy the mysterious feeling of being so unconscious of my environment.

Stuck to the red line

Today I have my first real diversion option on this path. I see a comment about Iceman Farout, whom I met last year at the CDT, Give instructions on a side path plus a road walk that would shave approximately 5 miles and a lifting game. It is very difficult not to take this limit.

In the CDT, culture is very «find your own path», and I loved learning the ability to read a mole map and discover alternative paths to the same destination that were not the official red line of the path. He felt as part of the challenge.

Here, however, I am trying to rely on the culture of the trail of the Apalaches to kiss each white fire. I am very grateful for the skills I learned in the CDT to find remains of remains and alternatives and play the game of who could find the easiest way until the end of the day that did not imply a path. It was a challenge in its own way, but a part of me needs to prove to myself that I was not only doing that to facilitate the days.

If I am here for such a short period of time, I have decided that it is important for me to follow the routed path and show myself that I can do the most difficult days.

The air is perfectly fresh and crispy and warm enough to throw my middle layer in mid -morning. I know Agent 99, a sobo through Hiker in my first source of water of the day and I am very inspired by its sand and speed to advance the path at the end of the season.

In our next source of water, the tramilia and I reviewed our maps to see where we stayed tonight and we suddenly realize that it is only half a mile of our hitch point in our first city. This is a full day earlier than expected, and we briefly entertain the idea of going to the city tonight and trying to return to the road, but we decided to stay in the shelter.

The shelters themselves feel so luxurious that none of us feel the need to sleep in a city and I do not love the idea of making self -to after dusk. In addition, this puts us on the perfect radio to get a good breakfast early tomorrow, which is my favorite city activity.

Stratton mountain

Our only real obstacle of the day is the rise of 4 miles to the top of Stratton Mountain. With the lunch promise and a fire tower at the top, time passes quickly.

I get up to the top of the Tower of Fire, despite the fact that the wind and steep stairs activate my light fear of heights. It is definitely worth promoting; The views of the surrounding mountains are incredible.

After the descent by Stratton Mountain, I take half a mile of diversion from the path to go to Stratton Pond. My expectations are low, after all, how great a pond, but all comments about Farout say it is worth the diversion.

When I get there, I see that Stratton Pond is more like Stratton’s expansive lake. I nake, swim and enjoy the afternoon before leaving for the final thrust to the shelter.

It may not be up to my double immersion path this time, but at least I got a single dip for the day.

To the camp! Sleep!

As the shadows begin to grow more, the tramily and I walk the last miles together, talking about how we want our weddings and the things we value in friendships.

At no time have we reached the shelter and I have to verify my map because it does not seem that we have been walking for a long time.

We arrive at the camp in time to see the sunset and the spirits are high, since we know that we are only half a breakfast in the city.

I meet another in Sobo, Bilbo, and download most of the food that I have not yet eaten. I am quite sure that we both thought that the other has done them a favor.

Today I listen to «Take It Easy» for vaccines and sounds like blinking and waking 20 miles along a path.
