Barcelona’s Camp Nou reversed again

The return from Barcelona to the camp well was delayed again after the Spanish champion said on Thursday that the stadium would not be ready to organize the next Champions League match of the club against Olympiakos.

The Catalan giants had hoped to receive a permit from the city council on time for the third game of their European campaign on October 21, but instead that match will be played in the Olympic Stadium.

Barca was beaten 2-1 on Wednesday by Paris Saint-Germain on the same soil.

«The club continues to work to obtain the necessary administrative permits for the opening of the Camp Nou in the coming days,» said Barca.

More than two years since the start of the renovation work, the famous stadium is still not ready to host competitions, even with a reduced capacity. The final capacity of the camp well is expected to be 105,000.

The big opening was originally planned for November 2024, but work were hit by various delays. The fire fire brigade said that there are still problems with evacuation routes, in addition to other safety problems.

The side of Hansi Flick played away for the first three weeks of the La Liga season to offer time to prepare the stadium to be opened again.

They then organized Valencia and Getafe in the 6000-capacity Johan Cruyff Stadium next to their training field.

Barcelona is an estimated 1.5 billion euros ($ 1.75 billion) paid for the rebuilding of Camp Nou.
