The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) said on Tuesday that it would appeal against FIFA sanctions after it is accused by the football board of cheating.

«Presenting fraudulent documentation with the aim of being eligible to play for a national team forms, pure and simple, a form of cheating, which cannot be approved in any way,» FIFA said in the report. «Such behavior affects the honesty of matches and endangers the essence of football as an activity based on honesty and transparency.»
In a statement on Facebook, FAM disputes the FIFA findings.
«Claims that players have acquired or were aware of fake documents» being unfounded, because so far no solid evidence has been presented, «said it.» FAM would claim that the heritage players involved are legitimate Malaysian citizens. «
The body said there had been an administrative error when submitting documents and that it is preparing for the ruling using original documents certified by the Malaysian government.
«FAM will present an official appeal with regard to this conclusion and will continue to defend the integrity of national football based on facts and authentic documents,» said it.
The Asian Football Confederation, which runs the Asian Cup, will refer the final results of the case to its own disciplinary committee, which could mean further penalties for Malaysia, who will play against Laos on Thursday.
The revelations have provoked anger in Malaysia.
