Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk said the English champions’ quality will ultimately show if they stay together after a fourth successive Premier League defeat to Brentford on Saturday.
The Reds’ title defense has collapsed in the past month and they have fallen to sixth in the table. Leader Arsenal could open a seven-point lead over Arne Slot’s men on Sunday.
Liverpool were again exposed defensively by Brentford’s strength from set-pieces and on the counter-attack in a 3-2 defeat in west London.
The Reds have conceded two or more goals in six of their nine league games and are without a clean sheet in nine games.

«It’s difficult to say. That we haven’t kept a clean sheet for nine games,» said central defender Van Dijk.
«It’s easy to blame a particular person, the backline or the set pieces, but ultimately it’s a collective matter. Everyone needs to look in the mirror, including myself.»
«I’m sure we will get out of this, but we won’t do it just by talking about it. We will try to improve. We need each other, we need the support, we need the people who celebrated with us last year to be with us even more now.
«We come out of this because we have the quality both offensively and defensively.»
Slot, however, was concerned about what he considered his side’s worst performance in all the defeats to date.
All three previous defeats came via late goals from Crystal Palace, Chelsea and Manchester United.
“You can’t compare them all, but the most worrying thing is that you lose four times in a row,” said Slot.
“You can judge the performance afterwards and today was the worst of all four as far as I’m concerned.”
