Women’s Nations League: Putellas-inspired Spain will defend the title against Germany

Two-time Ballon d’Or winner Alexia Putellas scored again on Tuesday to ensure Spain would defend its UEFA Nations League women’s title against Germany.

After putting four goals past Sweden in the first leg of the last four tie, world champions Spain came away with a 1-0 win in Gothenburg to advance 5-0 on aggregate.

Germany drew the second leg of the semi-final 2–2 against France in the northern French city of Caen and progressed 3–2 on aggregate.

The two-legged final will be held on November 28 and December 2, with the second leg played at Atletico Madrid’s Estadio Metropolitano.

«We have never had the chance to play at the Metropolitano. Hopefully the fans will become the twelfth player and we can win another title,» said Putellas.

Putellas, who scored two goals in the first leg, scored on target in the 74th minute after Spain’s second goal despite dominating possession.

Nicole Anyomi pulled one back for Germany in the 12th minute after turning past Maelle Lakrar and firing a shot into the top left corner.

Germany made it two on the night with a 50th-minute goal from winger Klara Buehl, who fired a left-footed shot into the roof of the net from a tight angle after driving into the penalty area.

Clara Mateo gave France hope with a late header from a Kadidiatou Diani cross to level the match.

But there was nothing left in the tank as the visitor set about breaking the hearts of France and raucous partisan home supporters in the Normandy port city.

«It was a very tough match, so we are very happy that we are now in the final. We had the mentality to risk everything tonight,» said German midfielder Sjoeke Nuesken. UEFA.com.

The final, Nuesken added, would be «a tough match for us. We played against them at Euro 2025, so we know it’s going to be very difficult».

“As always, we will try to give everything and risk everything to achieve victory,” she added.
