1500 – Fox AT Thru Hike – Day 87

The Cornwall Inn offered a hearty breakfast again today, so we started the walk with our batteries charged. I am particularly grateful today. Turns out I didn’t plan any snacks for today on my restock. Even with the generous breakfast, if Snow hadn’t brought snickers bars, I would be very hungry.

We had a great Uber ride this morning. The driver was an actor who splits his time between New York City and here. They talked about plays with Snow while I listened. I am blatantly uncultured, but I thoroughly enjoyed your lively and heartfelt discussion.

We left where we stopped yesterday and were able to see Falls Village Falls. They were building a new substation near our start. According to the innkeeper, it is for hydroelectric power, but the river plants look old. I wonder if they are modernizing them.

Shortly after the falls, we crossed 1500 miles. The end of the road is tangible for me now, with less than 700 miles to go. The trail between Falls Village and Salisbury was a long gradual climb ending in a steep descent with intermittent stone stairs. Along the way, the trail provided multiple good views.

Today was shorter than yesterday, with fewer difficult climbs. Unfortunately, it was harder for Snow. Your hiking shoes are many years old. Despite its age, it is in very good condition. But our feet change as we age and your toes are suffering a lot today from getting stuck on downhills. In all likelihood, this will be the last walk for those shoes.

Tomorrow I will go out for an absolutely hectic triple “zero”.
