A crazy idea: the trip

What it is: El Northeast 115: according to Google

Northeast 115 is the ultimate hiking challenge. The «Northeast 115» refers to the complete list of 115 distinct peaks in the northeastern United States that reach a height of 4,000 feet or more. This popular hiking and “peak packing” challenge combines well-known 4,000-foot lists in New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine.

The Breakdown of the 115 Peaks

The list is officially tracked by the Northeast 111 Club (which originated when the list only had 111 peaks, but was later expanded to 115). To complete the challenge, you must achieve the following:

Maine (14 peaks): The rugged mountains to the west and north, anchored by Mount Katahdin (5,267 feet).

New Hampshire (48 peaks): It includes the famous White Mountains, with Mount Washington being the highest peak in the Northeast (6,288 feet).

Vermont (5 peaks): Peaks throughout the Green Mountains, including Mount Mansfield (4,395 feet)

New York (48 peaks): The classic Adirondack High Peaks (46 peaks) with Mount Marcy (5,343 feet) and The Catskills (2 peaks), including the final 2 peaks, Slide and Hunter Mountains.

What did Will Robinson do (first)?

Will Robinson is, in my opinion, one of the greatest long-distance backpackers our century has ever seen. One year, Will, whose trail name is Flash, summited all 48 of New Hampshire’s mountains above 4,000 feet. Another year, he reached all 58 Colorado peaks over 14,000 feet. In 2023, Will Robinson was the first person to turn the Northeast 115 challenge into a long-distance hike. On August 14, 2023, after only 59 days, Will completed a hike. A walk along Northeast 115. Walked from state to state from the Catskills to the Northville Placid Trail and Adirondacks to the Green Mountains, the White Mountains and all the way to Maine in one connected route, all on foot. An absolutely absurd feat. Currently, Will is the only human to have completed this endeavor. You can read about Wills’ accomplishments and listen to his wonderful podcast episodes by Googling his name like this: Will Robinson Northeast 115. He’s on Instagram at wills_wanderings. God bless you Will. You are a true pioneer and a wonderful human being!

I want everyone to win 🙂

Two very strong and intelligent women, Goldilocks, myself and hiker Cheryl Borek, Cheryl “Fourthirteen” Borek, have made more than one attempt to become the first women to complete their respective routes.

Cheryl Borek’s second attempt to become the first woman to hike The Northeast 115 is currently underway! Cheryl began her endeavor in The Catskills in New York and has created a route that will end in Maine, where I am starting! Cheryl is a fellow Trek Blogger and you can follow her journey here too! She is actively walking the route as I write this blog post! Good luck Fourteen! I hope to give you a high five sometime down the road!
