A feverish dream of a day (Day 65)

Mixer took us to the grocery store to resupply so we could get back on the trail and out again. But somewhere in the guide it said that Glasgow has a big plexiglass dinosaur in the city. We can’t leave before we see that!

We had seen a place with some dinosaurs and they left us there. We’ll find out later how we get back on the trail. It’s also one of the last days with PK, before he goes off the road for two weeks, so let’s make it fun!

Am I awake yet?

The place we stumbled upon is Dinosaur Kingdom 2. I can’t even put into words how this place felt. However, overwhelmed is definitely one of the keywords. We fought Sasquatch in a water gun fight, Dreamcatcher married a gremlin-looking creature, and we learned all about the history we missed in school: the fact that Abraham Lincoln used mounted dinosaurs to win the civil war, obviously. This place is one big fever dream and by far the most childish fun I’ve had so far.

go with the flow

Today is about letting go of control. The original plan was to get back on the trail today, but we’ll let PK and Dreamcatcher decide. They do the urban planning, my dad and I do the trail planning.

After this wild afternoon, we wanted to do something more relaxed. So, Dreamcatcher does what it does best: get us into trouble. Lexington has some breweries, sounds good! What brewery? No idea.

The trail offers… everything?

Our angel tracker who brought us to Lexington recommended a place in town. Awesome! He dropped us off in the center of the city. A guy with a really cool retro camera walked by, so we congratulated him. He told us that he also has an old portrait camera and would like to take our portraits. What a fun encounter! You will send us the photos by email when they are ready.

After this little spontaneous photo session, we went to the brewery. There was a sign on the door: “Special night admission for $5.” We asked what the special night was and it was karaoke night! We’ve been saying for weeks that we want to do karaoke! This is our opportunity. PK started off with a cheeky rendition of Radiohead’s “Creep.” I’m going to miss that man when he gets out of the way.

Dreamcatcher followed him like a pro. That girl knows how to sing! I knew she played and sang in a band, but she’s really on another level. It’s great to experience this with this group, who were complete strangers a few weeks ago, but now feel like family. I’m really grateful for that.

Tonight I get extra points for experiencing this with my dad. I think it’s great that you’ve embraced the «go with the flow» attitude so well today.

So… where do we sleep?

Even though it’s getting late and we still have nowhere to sleep, we don’t worry about it. And somehow everything worked out. PK started talking to a lovely couple. They saw our backpacks outside and heard what we were doing, after which they offered us all a place to sleep at their house tonight!

I have no idea how this all still works, or what powers are at play here, but one thing is for sure: the trail provided us with the craziest, most spontaneous day we couldn’t have even imagined.
