Argentina names FIFA World Cup 2026: full list; List of Lionel Messi headlines


Argentina boss Lionel Scaloni named the 26-man squad for the defending champions ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which starts on June 11 in the US, Canada and Mexico.

Captain and star striker Lionel Messi, who felt his left hamstring while playing for Inter Miami last week, has been included in the squad.

Messi, 38, played a key role in Argentina’s victory at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, scoring seven goals and assisting three times.

Argentina begins its build-up with two friendlies against Honduras (June 6) and Iceland (June 9) before moving to its base camp in Kansas City.

La Albiceste are in Group J and start their campaign against Algeria on June 16 before taking on Austria and Jordan.
