Arsenal wrapped up their first Premier League title in 22 years with a thrilling 1-0 win over Burnley in the penultimate game of the season on Monday, thanks to Kai Havertz’s first-half goal.
The result means second-placed Manchester City must end Bournemouth’s 16-match unbeaten run on Tuesday to enter the title race into the final weekend. Still, Arsenal will be crowned champions if they beat Crystal Palace on Sunday.
It would be Arsenal’s first league title since 2004, when the ‘Invincibles’ remained undefeated under Arsène Wenger.
Current manager Mikel Arteta is two wins away from achieving the club’s best ever season as Arsenal also play Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final on May 30.
«It’s been a great season so far. We have one more big season here (in the league) and then the Champions League final,» Arsenal captain Martin Ødegaard told the Emirates crowd in an on-pitch interview. «Just a little more to go and we’re going to give it everything. We have to keep going.»
Fittingly, the goal against already relegated Burnley came from a corner – the source of so many crucial Arsenal goals this season – when Havertz rose highest to head in from a Bukayo Saka throw in the 37th.

It was only Havertz’s second league goal of an injury-plagued season, but he was given the start by Arteta ahead of Viktor Gyökeres.
“I felt like he had to start,” Arteta said. «The way they set it up, I think he can be very difficult to handle. And he showed that.»
Havertz was fortunate not to be sent off when he was only shown a yellow card in the 67th for a lunging tackle from behind on Lesley Ugochukwu, a decision upheld after a VAR review.
Although Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya could never make a save against a toothless Burnley side, the lead never felt entirely comfortable as a second goal never came for the hosts.
But Arsenal held on for almost ten minutes of added time to take another step towards ending their decades-long title drought.
“There’s one more to go unless something good happens tomorrow night,” said Arteta, adding that he will be “the biggest Bournemouth fan ever” during the match against Man City.
