Arsenal vs Atletico Madrid, Champions League — Simeone provides injury update for Julian Alvarez

Julian Alvarez returns from injury for Atletico Madrid on Tuesday for the semi-final second leg against Arsenal in the Champions League.

The Argentine forward scored Atletico’s equalizer from the penalty spot in last week’s first leg, which finished 1-1, but did not finish the match. He did not appear at all in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Valencia in La Liga.

However, the former Manchester City player, who scored twenty times for the team this season, traveled to London on Monday and seemed available.

«Julian Alvarez is important in this match because he knows the English league very well,» said Atletico coach Diego Simeone. «He played very well last week and I hope he can bring what he needs to the game tomorrow.»

Atletico’s players are in a different hotel than the one they stayed in when they lost 0-4 to Arsenal in the league stage in October.

Simeone was asked about the switch, amid reports that the Argentina coach had ordered it in the belief that using the same base could bring bad luck to his players.

“The hotel was cheaper,” he said, smiling. “That’s why we changed.”

According to the Britain’s Press Association, Atletico is located at the five-star Courthouse Hotel in Shoreditch, East London. In October. It previously stayed at the four-star Marriott Hotel in Regents Park.
