Championship Playoffs Final – Hull City will take legal action if Middlesbrough are promoted: Owner

Ahead of Saturday’s Championship Playoff final against Middlesbrough, Hull City owner Acun Ilicali said the club will take legal action if its opponent is promoted to the Premier League.

The defeat to Southampton in the semi-finals had seemingly ended Middlesbrough’s season, but Southampton were kicked out of the final on Wednesday for spying on opponents all season, including Middlesbrough, before their first leg.

According to reports, Hull, who defeated Millwall in the semi-final, were exploring an option that would give them direct access to the top tier.

Before kick-off at Wembley, Ilicali said BBC Radio Humberside outside the stadium that the decision to let Middlesbrough play was ‘unbelievable’.

«Our legal team says we have to take action, that’s for sure. We have no doubt about it. All we want is justice. If justice is violated, no one will enjoy football anymore,» he added.

The club was left unhappy as it spent more than a week preparing for the Saints. “For me, reinstating an eliminated team – our lawyers also say this, and that is their opinion – is an incredibly wrong decision,” Ilicali said.
