Chelsea avoided tougher sanctions from UEFA on Tuesday for overspending, while sister club Strasbourg received the largest fine of 13 million euros ($14.8 million) among 14 clubs that breached financial supervision rules.
Aston Villa was ordered to pay 7.5 million euros ($8.6 million), a one-third reduction from UEFA’s financial sanction last year.
A year ago, Chelsea was fined 31 million euros ($35.5 million) and imposed stricter financial targets. According to UEFA, the club narrowly missed these targets after spending more than 70 percent of its revenue on wages and transfers by 2025.
Chelsea was fined 1 million euros ($1.14 million) on Tuesday, with another 2 million euros deferred, after a season in which it won the FIFA Club World Cup and earned almost $115 million from FIFA.
Villa was fined €7.5 million, suspended twice, as it tries to meet targets next year when the Europa League holders play in the Champions League.

UEFA praised Chelsea and Villa for making financial progress, while urging both clubs to “significantly reduce their selection cost ratio by 2026.”
However, Chelsea faces a major drop in revenue as they will not play in the Champions League or any European competition next season after finishing in 10th place in the Premier League.
The club earned about $90 million in June as compensation from Manchester City for the hiring of former coach Enzo Maresca and from the sale of Spanish defender Marc Cucurella to Real Madrid.
Other fines announced on Tuesday include 7 million euros ($8 million) for Fenerbahce, and 6 million euros ($6.85 million) each for Newcastle United, Juventus and Fiorentina.
