Chelsea winger Jesse Derry was taken to hospital as a precaution after being stretchered off the pitch following a clash of the heads against Nottingham Forest during his first Premier League start on Monday.
18-year-old Derry fell to the ground without using his arms to cushion his fall after the aerial collision with Forest’s Zach Abbott. The incident required more than eight minutes of treatment. Derry was taken off on a stretcher as silence fell at Stamford Bridge and his Chelsea teammates appeared concerned.
“Jesse is conscious, talking and undergoing preventive checks,” Chelsea said in a statement.
