The rain came shortly after leaving this morning. It was ideal for moody woods and wet feet. I like the changing forests, wet feet… not so much. The rain is part of the journey.
I saw a lot of these little hunting spiders. I had never seen them before today.
The rain was very intermittent, so I also saw my little creatures. The usual suspects, squirrels and chipmunks, but also clean spiders and a newt. How can you tell the difference between newts and salamanders?

At the shelter I met three hikers from the section, all of them police officers. We got to talking business and overall had a great evening. As we packed up for the night, they complained about bringing too much food. That ended with me having more food. Thanks Hurley!
I initially planned to use the shelter. However, there are more than half a dozen paper wasp nests on the ceiling and a few mud wasps. Tent!
