Crystal Palace and Rayo Vallecano fans clash in Leipzig ahead of the Conference League final

Fans of Crystal Palace and Rayo Vallecano clashed in Leipzig as their teams prepare to play the Conference League final, German police said on Wednesday.

Police said bottles, beer glasses and furniture were thrown on Tuesday evening when a group of around 300 Rayo fans encountered Palace fans sitting outside restaurants, and officers also intervened in another incident when around 60 Palace fans ‘provoked’ Spanish supporters.

Leipzig police said two people were arrested and two police officers suffered minor injuries but remained fit for duty. The identities of more than 300 people were checked, police said.

Both teams are in their first European finals and it is coach Oliver Glasner’s last match at Palace before he leaves at the end of the season.

A win for Palace on Wednesday would keep English clubs on course for a possible win in all three of Europe’s main continental men’s club competitions. Aston Villa won the Europa League last week and Arsenal will play Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final on Saturday.
