This morning I popped over to NY 22 and Tony’s Deli. On the way, I passed the train stop to New York City. It’s really right on the road. After walking a half mile down the road, I stopped at Tony’s ordering my steak, egg, and cheese. The lady asked me if I wanted a bagel or a wedge. Turns out a wedge is basically a foot long, so I accidentally ordered two feet long. Fortunately, eating two small ones will be good for me.
Leaving the deli, I ran into Murder Leg and finally ran into him. Turns out half a dozen hikers stayed at the deli. Based on your report, I’m glad I stopped by the shelter. Their night was a constant stream of road and train noise. Murder Leg could barely sleep.

After the deli, I walked through the fields and then along the Ten Mile River. Near Ten Mile Shelter I stopped and soaked my shins. Looking back, I wonder if it was a good choice. The Ten Mile and Housatonic rivers are not safe to drink and you can’t really eat much fish from them. Does the risk extend to getting my feet and shins wet? Too late for such worries.

Passing Bulls Bridge (and skipping the restaurant, crazy right?) I walked up a hill to the CT border. Connecticut greeted me with good views and plenty of rocks to sit on. Another state down and approaching 700 miles to go. I kept walking.
At the Mt. Something shelter I socialized for a while with a group of weekenders who became day hikers. Weather forecasts are for thunderstorms with winds between 20 and 60 miles per hour. It is understandable that they were withdrawing. Luckily, they put the weight of the package into my food bag in the form of bars and snacks.
After the locals left, Murder Leg arrived and stopped by the restaurant. He is of a similar age and from Wisconsin. Together we discussed our casually similar injuries. We soon move on to the differences we see between walking single, in your twenties, and walking married, middle-aged. Then the storm came, making conversation impossible as rain and wind pounded the steel roof.
