Durston Domain – The Walk

Sometime between Bishop’s lodge and my first meal on the trail, I lost my fork. I have a plastic pot scraper that has worked for the most part.

I used this to eat my Chocolate Peanut Butter Oatmeal with a peanut butter cup and chocolate covered freeze dried bananas.

Today’s trail was absolutely beautiful. We walked through meadows and valleys surrounded by snow-capped mountains. I walked with Phoenix from Montreal, Canada, for most of the day.

We stopped for lunch in a meadow with the most beautiful backdrop, filled with a family of deer. It was the perfect place to rest before the big climb this afternoon. It was a long, slow 3 miles to camp. We decided to make a shorter day since we were all exhausted from yesterday’s double pass.

I arrived at camp around 3pm, and after setting up camp, I set up camp on a rock to playfully try to carve a spoon out of a stick. It kind of worked, but I was too hungry to finish, so I ate my Parmesan Mac with my pot scraper. Right after dinner, the sweetest angel, Geezer, came up to me and offered me his old spoon! He said he preferred plastic and was carrying two. This one had become bent and could break at any time, but it should last me the next few days until I can replace it at VVR or Mammoth. What a gem!

Durston Domain – The Walk
Our camp tonight is very full. I’m camped at Camp Durston with Radio, Rolodex, Little Wagon and Geezer all hidden in our Durston tents. It’s fun to chat through the walls of our tent as we fall asleep. But not for long. We have to get over Muir Pass tomorrow.
