Egypt started its World Cup preparations with a 1-0 home win over Russia on Thursday, but talisman Mohamed Salah was rested for the friendly in Cairo.
Mostafa Ziko’s header in the 65th minute proved the difference for Egypt, who had Omar Marmoush in the starting line-up, marking the return of Ligue 1 centre-back Mohamed Abdelmoneim from a long-term injury and making ten substitutions during the match.
Salah, who joined his teammates on Wednesday after a tearful end to his Liverpool career last weekend, was always expected to miss the match.
Egypt has a friendly against Brazil in Cleveland on June 6 before starting its World Cup group match against Belgium in Seattle on June 15.
