Professional Game Match Officials (PGMO), English football’s professional refereeing organisation, has been renamed Professional Game Referees or Pro Ref, the English Football Association (FA) said on Tuesday.
Backed by increased funding from the Premier League, English Football League (EFL), FA and Women’s Super League (WSL) under a three-year deal, Pro Ref will expand programs to develop refereeing talent, it said in a statement.
As part of the changes, top referees who mainly officiate Premier League matches and work as video assistant referees, along with officials who take charge of matches in the EFL Championship and other EFL competitions, will be brought together under one group.
The group will oversee matches in both the Premier League and EFL Championship.
