The Brazilian Palmeiras scored twice in the room of 10 second half minutes to beat Ahly van Egypt 2-0 in their group A Club World Cup collision that was stopped for 50 minutes due to fear of stormy weather at the Metlife Stadium on Thursday.
Ahly’s Palestinian international striker Wessam Abou Ali ran in his own network and tried to defend a free kick that was inaugurated by Anibal Moreno, and got a confusion with his defenders to give Palmeiras a 49th minute’s lead.
The first goal in the group was followed 10 minutes later by a rapid counterattack of the Brazilian club, professionally finished by Jose Manuel Lopez, who had arrived during the break.
Immediately after the second goal, the English referee Anthony Taylor took the two teams off the field, while the announcer of the public address told spectators to leave their seats and seek shelter under the stadium competition because of a «serious weather threat».
