FIFA World Cup 2026 – Gnabry doubtful for Germany after thigh injury

Bayern Munich and Germany forward Serge Gnabry could miss this summer’s World Cup after tearing a muscle in his thigh, the Bundesliga club announced on Saturday.

Bayern published a statement saying Gnabry would be out “for an extended period” due to a “torn adductor muscle in his right thigh”.

The defending Bundesliga champions did not give a timeframe, but German media reported that Gnabry had played his final game of the club season and could miss this summer’s World Cup.

The 30-year-old started both legs as Bayern defeated Real Madrid to reach the semi-finals, where they will play Paris Saint-Germain. The club did not reveal when or how the injury occurred.

In 21 league games this season, the former Arsenal player scored eight goals and seven assists.

Gnabry is a regular member of Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann’s squad and has made 59 appearances for his country, scoring 26 goals.

Bayern can also win the Bundesliga up to and including the semi-finals of the German Cup on Sunday by avoiding a defeat at home against Stuttgart.
