In the second round of Group G matches on Sunday, Belgium were held to a draw by Iran in Los Angeles and New Zealand lost to Egypt in Vancouver.
The Pharaohs’ first win of the World Cup group stage took them to the top of the standings with four points, ahead of Iran and Belgium.
Points table group G
| Position | Team | Played | wins | Pulls | To lose | GD | Points |
| 1. | Egypt | 2 | 1 | 1 | 0 | +2 | 4 |
| 2. | Iran | 2 | 0 | 2 | 0 | 0 | 2 |
| 3. | Belgium | 2 | 0 | 2 | 0 | 0 | 2 |
| 4. | New Zealand | 2 | 0 | 1 | 1 | -2 | 1 |
Qualification Scenarios:
Egypt can seal qualification with a point against Iran in the final match of Group G. A defeat followed by a victory for Belgium against New Zealand could push the country to third place, but that could be enough to progress as one of the top eight teams in third place.
Iran can qualify with a win over Egypt if Belgium drops points against New Zealand. If Belgium also wins, the team that finishes higher will be decided on the basis of goal difference. In the event of a third draw in a row for both teams, a goal difference is also required as a tiebreaker.
New Zealand will have to beat Belgium in their final match to have a chance of qualifying for the round of 16. There is a possibility that the team will even finish third if they win (if Iran beats Egypt). But four points could be enough to continue as one of the best third-placed teams.
