FIFA World Cup 2026 — Scotland beat Haiti for first win in 36 years; HAI vs SCO player ratings

Scotland ended a 36-year drought to win the FIFA World Cup by beating Haiti 1-0 in Sunday’s Group C match at the Philadelphia Stadium.

John McGinn’s deflected first-half goal proved the difference as Scotland climbed to the top of the group after Brazil and Morocco drew 1-1 in their match earlier in the day.

The goal was also Scotland’s first in the World Cup since Craig Burley’s goal in the 1998 edition, which saw them draw against Norway in the group stage.

Scotland, who had earlier hit the post with Scott McTominay’s effort, struggled at times against the Haitians’ pace but the Caribbean team, making their first World Cup appearance since 1974, lacked clinical finishing.
