Full of protein – The Trek

I feel great. Thank God. What a whirlwind this week has been.

I woke up on a cloud. My tent was soaked but I was comfortable and dry. There was no rain in the forecast for the rest of the day, but fog and gray clouds consumed everything around me. I put on my rain gear to stay dry as I walked through the fog.

My phone said the high temperature today was 40 Fahrenheit with it feeling like 31. Brr. I kept moving to stay warm and finally the sun peeked through the clouds.

I am so happy that my body is almost back to normal. My calf is still bothering me a little, so the climbs are slower than I’m used to, but doable. I can do it. The way I’ve been improving in the last few days, I’m sure I’ll be back to 100% in no time.

I walked alone most of the day. Straight Up started a little later than me, and most of the people I know are either ahead or behind me. I’m enjoying the solo hike during the day. It gives me a lot of time to think and not think while I distract myself from the podcasts.

We had a goal of 20 miles today, but moving in the cold slowed us both down. We decided to shorten our day by a few miles to be warm and comfortable at camp. Also, there isn’t much in terms of camping between this site and the spring for 10 miles, and I don’t have 27 miles at all for the day. My tent was still a little wet from yesterday, so setting it up early gives some time to let everything dry before the sun goes down. All in all, I think it was a good decision to set up camp when we did.

Dinner tonight is Chicken Tikka Masala from Bowl & Kettle. It’s very good. I think this is only my second freeze dried meal since starting the PCT. Blaze and I were talking nutrition and she suggested increasing my protein intake, especially after a muscle injury. She gave me this one to try with 47 grams of protein. That’s more than a package of tuna, so you may need to start incorporating more high-protein freeze-dried meals from time to time. I ended the night with a cup of hot chocolate and an episode of the reality show I downloaded. Fingers crossed tomorrow brings warmer weather.
