Genius Sports made a presentation to the Indian Super League (ISL) clubs in a virtual meeting on Thursday, detailing what it would gain if it were given the commercial rights for the men’s top flight.
Goal-line technology, better fan experience and a prominent commercial presence were some of the highlights of the meeting, which was attended by all but one of the ISL clubs – defending champions Mohun Bagan Super Giant – and M. Satyanarayan, the Deputy General Secretary of the All India Football Federation (AIFF).
Bagan has not yet responded Sports stars‘s demand for an answer.
“Genius Sports has put forward their plans to take ISL to the next level and transform the league into a global product,” Satyanarayan said.

Genius, a sports data and technology company based in the United Kingdom, made headlines in Indian football when it announced its mammoth offer of Rs. 2129 Kr. for a twenty-year contract was unveiled last month. Founded in 2016, the company provides technology for the National Football League (NFL), Premier League, FIBA and the Japan B. League.
It is also the official data partner for NASCAR.
«It was a good first meeting. At the end of the day they are a big global player and have experience in almost every sport and I think they gave a pretty good presentation,» said Mandar Tamhane, the CEO of NorthEast United. Sports stars.
“Also from a fan’s perspective it could mean a good technology-driven, richer matchday, a kind of experience that our Indian football deserves and we can be ambitious with that.”
One of Genius Sports’ key products is its semi-automated offside technology – a service it provides to the Premier League, the Belgian Pro League and the Brazilian Serie A.
“What Genius Sports has to offer goes far beyond money. They have built the data and broadcast infrastructure for some of the most valuable sports leagues in the world,” said Mukul Chaudhari, CEO of Jamshedpur FC.
Genius also underlined a ‘sustainable’ model for the future, where there will be something for every stakeholder, including the sponsors and investors, using personalized advertising on digital platforms.
For fans, it offers FANHub, which Genius Sports claims is “the world’s first sports-focused media activation platform,” and technologies such as Dynamic Creative Optimization (DCO).
«(They’re) a company listed on the New York Stock Exchange, so they know why they’re in it (ISL). They haven’t given any sort of projected P&L statement because ultimately, unless and until they get the thing, I don’t think any company is going to share the numbers,» Tamhane added.
«Once they’re in, they’ll obviously share the numbers, which I think is the right way forward. But it’s a positive thing to look at, in my opinion.»
It is understood that Genius Sports has scheduled a meeting with the AIFF Executive Committee in the coming week(s).
