This morning I got up and ready for breakfast. And I really wasn’t sure what my plan was for the day. I know I should walk, but I’m very sad to leave the shelter. I am also a little nervous about the conditions of the next river crossing. Yesterday the water levels had fallen significantly. But from last night, most river crosses were still twice as high than recommended crossing speed and depth. I will only have to make a game time.
There were a lot of hikers at breakfast, and it was really great to see everyone. There have been so many family faces recently. As well as a lot of new hikers who had never known before, but I have seen the last two days in the shelter. After breakfast, I was definitely tilting to stay. The water levels of the crossing that is transferred showed that safe conditions had still passed for the crossing. And unlike yesterday, I don’t have many options in terms of road walk to avoid these rivers.
Another exceptional breakfast. I’m going to miss these!
I also have a lot of writing and video work. The idea of going on an excursion and still being so far definitely stress me a little. It would be very nice to take a last day to be trapped in some work, emotionally prepared to leave Shaws and allow the rivers to fall. Some time after eating, that’s what I decided. I would take the day to gather my things. I still have to buy food and replenish for this next section. I think it will be a refueling of 3 1/2 days. And then I would spend most of the day doing work.
I was excited to have a last day with Hippie Chick, Poet, Trippy, Cooper and the family. Hippie Chick and Poets, his daughter Julia, planned to make a special dinner tonight for everyone. And I was very excited to be able to stay for that. His cousins also visited, so it was fun to spend some time during the day with all the children. Hippie Chick and Poet have raised two of the most incredible children I have met in my life. He had never witnessed before the children are so mature emotionally. Seeing them solve problems and resolving the conflict has been revealing. I think they are more mature than many people of my age. Definitely much more emotionally developed than me as a child.

It was really pleasant to meet and spend time with Kiddo, an incredibly experienced excrement!
After breakfast, I returned to my room with the mission of doing the greatest amount of writing and video as possible. I had about five or six blogs to write. And I had to make the same amount of short videos and also add and load some long YouTube videos. It is not exactly the hardest work. It is very cumulative. I let him out of control so much. Although yesterday, when I was lazy, I managed to express to send text messages to all my blogs. So today, I just had to return and read everything and edit.
After doing a lot of things, I ended up dating the children for a while. Then he bounced between working, hang out at the gear shop and simply enjoy my last day in the shelter. In general, around 6 pm, the working day ends for everyone. Sometimes they still have to walk in ferry and several things like that. But, in general, at that time, everyone is released to hang out with each other.
It will definitely be sad to say goodbye to all. I feel that I have approached this wonderful family and group of people so much during my time. Not only during the two weeks that injured me, but especially in recent days, since I have been staying inside the family home of Hippie Chick and Poet. The shelter has been in capacity and helped free a room or a bunk making me stay in the main house. It has been a really unique experience to feel so close to these people. My time here in Shaws will always have such a big space in my heart. I know this will be one of my favorite memories of the whole year.

Rice and beans for lunch.
Later at night, we all had a great family dinner together. Julia and her cousin made an incredible shepherd cake. And they made this delicious fruit blow that was green like a swamp. And it was so delicious. Then, for dessert, they made monkey bread. It’s so great that these young children can go to a kitchen and prepare an entire dinner with almost no support.

Delicious green fruit blow.
It was lovely to sit with everyone and have one last meal together. He would simply have not felt right to leave here too fast without enjoying one last day. One of the best gifts that gave me an injury was the ability to reduce speed. To realize that in the great scheme of things, a singular day will not break it all my year. And if so, then there is nothing I can do about it. But I know that is not the case. I am still on the way to finish at the end of November, even if I’m only doing about 26 miles per day. While returning to the PCT around July 1. Even if they are a couple of days after that, that is not the end of the world either. Having reviewed the meteorological reports recently, it seems that most snow melts in the west. Which means that instead of committing suicide to make 20 miles through snow, I can easily make larger days in the mountains. So, in the end, it seems that things really worked quite well. As always I knew they would.

The children even adorned the blow with mint and blueberries!
After dinner, everyone passed for a while. It has simply been very nice to sit with these incredible people, talk and share stories. Later at night, I went to lie down and do a little more work. And then, before calling him one night, I sat with Hippie Chick for a while speaking. I heat my heart thinking about this family and the relationship we have developed for such a short period of time. Shaws Hostel will always feel at home. And honestly, depending on what my plans for next year are, I would love to return here and work for a season. Even if it weren’t a full season. It is definitely something I have been thinking a lot. The environment is so incredible that it makes you want to stay forever. Whether it goes north or southern direction, I would be making a massive mistake if you didn’t stop and spend the night at Shaws Hiker Hostel in Monson, me.
