India created history on Friday after qualifying for the quarter-finals of the AFC Under-17 Asian Cup for the first time in history.
The Young Tigresses defeated Lebanon 4-0 in a must-win match before the Group C match between the Philippines and Chinese Taipei ended in their favor and confirmed their place in the last eight.
In the quarter-finals, coached Pamela Conti will face China, which came second in the first edition of the tournament in 2005.
How can India qualify for the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup?
The four Asian Cup semi-finalists will book their places in this year’s FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, to be held in Morocco between October and November.
Therefore, India will have to beat China in the quarter-finals to qualify for the World Cup.
The only time India participated in the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup was in 2022, when it hosted the event. The team exited the group stage.
