England midfielder Jude Bellingham scored a quick-fire brace to put his side in command against Mexico in the round of 16 at the Azteca Stadium on Sunday.
Bellingham opened the scoring in the 36th minute by turning in Bukayo Saka’s cross with a low header. The Real Madrid star doubled the lead in just 99 seconds by tapping in Harry Kane’s cutback.
How many English players have scored a hat-trick in the World Cup?
If Bellingham scores again against Mexico today, he will become the fourth English player to score a World Cup hat-trick.
Geoff Hurst was the first to do so after scoring three times against West Germany in the 1966 final, when England won their first and only title.
Gary Lineker found the net three times against Poland in the 1986 edition.
Kane became the third England player to achieve a World Cup treble when he scored three goals against Panama in the 2018 World Cup.
